Larry Baddour

Larry M. Baddour, MD, FIDSA, FAHA, is the HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Professor of Infectious Diseases Honoring Walter R. Wilson, MD, and Chair, Division of Infectious Diseases at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, Minnesota. He obtained a M.D. degree from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis in 1976. Dr. Baddour then completed training at Methodist Hospitals of Memphis and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Since then, he has served on the faculty of the University of Tennessee in Memphis, the University of Missouri, Columbia, and the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. In 2002, he joined Mayo Clinic Rochester as a Professor of Medicine.
He has had over three decades of clinical and basic research interests in both skin and soft-tissue infections and cardiovascular infections. He, with Alan Bisno, provided the initial clinical description of postvenectomy cellulitis among coronary artery bypass patients in 1982. Dr. Baddour’s laboratory and clinical work in cardiovascular infections has yielded more than 150 publications. A member of the American Heart Association’s Rheumatic Fever, Endocarditis, and Kawasaki Disease Committee since 1999 which he chaired for five years, he also served as the Writing Group Chair for four Scientific Statements. The statements have addressed infective endocarditis, cardiovascular implantable electronic device infections, and other types of device infections. He has also been involved as a co-author in multiple other Statements from the RFEKD Committee.
