Jonathan Sandoe

Jonathan Sandoe was appointed as a Consultant Microbiologist and Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2006 and moved to an Associate Clinical Professorship in Microbiology at the University of Leeds in 2013. He was a founder member of the Leeds Endocarditis Service, a multidisciplinary team which has managed patients with infective endocarditis (IE) at LTHT since 2004. He has a longstanding interest in the clinical presentation, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of IE and vascular infections.

Since 2002 Dr Sandoe has been a member of the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Endocarditis Working Party and in 2011 took over as chair. The Working Party has recently published guidelines for the diagnosis, management and prevention of implantable cardiac electronic device infections. Dr Sandoe is also Co-chair of a joint British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and Vascular Society for Great Britain and Ireland vascular graft infection working party. He was a member of the guideline development group for the National Institue for Health and Clinical Excellent (NICE) endocarditis prophylaxis guidelines and is currently working on a British Heart Valve Society Working Party looking at models of service provision for patients with heart valve disease.

Dr Sandoe has researched and published predominantly on clinical aspects of IE and vascular device infections and is currently chief investigator of the national endocarditis epidemiology, management and outcome study (NEEMO) study.
